6 easy and enjoyable hiking tips in the Stubai Valley
Updated on 6.6.2026
If you ask us at reception for a hiking recommendation, we are incredibly happy to recommend the most beautiful hikes around Neustift im Stubaital that are perfectly tailored to your wishes. As a specialist for hiking vacations, we attach great importance to personal hiking advice and also offer daily hiking tips in our morning post at breakfast, as well as a hiking lecture with hotel manager Stefan himself.
Of course, you’ll always benefit from the central location of our Augarten Hiking Hotel (right in the heart of the Stubai Valley hiking region) and from the many hiking perks that make your hiking vacation so special: free rental of hiking poles and backpacks, a free hiking shuttle just 50 meters from the hotel, free rides on the mountain railways, and much, much more.
To give you some inspiration in advance, we’ve put together a list of six hikes that we especially recommend to our guests.
The most important things at a glance:
- Six varied hikes right on the doorstep thanks to the central location of our hiking hotel.
- Thanks to the STUBAI.SUPER.CARD, hiking buses and cable cars can be used free of charge. The Stubai.Super.Card is included in the price.
- You will receive personal hiking tips daily in our morning post, at our individual hiking advice at the reception and at the weekly lecture “Wanderbares Stubaital”.
- All-inclusive package for hikers, featuring free rental of hiking poles and new hiking backpacks, an on-site hiking room with a shoe dryer, and a hiking bus just 50 meters away …
Here are our top hiking tips for you:
Hiking tip 1: WILDE WASSER WEG
The Wild Water Trail is located at the end of the valley, just before the Stubai Glacier. Take the bus or your own car to the “Nürnberger Hütte” parking lot. Below the road is the “Ruetz Katarakt” access point. From there it is a leisurely walk along the valley floor into the valley.
- Enjoy the barrier-free Wild Water Trail via the Tschangelair Alm to the Grawa waterfall. Treat yourself to a break on the numerous benches and sun loungers and be fascinated by the raging rapids and the “Grawa Waterfall”.
- If you still have energy, you should definitely climb the two platforms to the right of the waterfall and enjoy the proximity to the cascading water.
Leisurely hikers can also enjoy a refreshing dip in the water on one of the loungers right next to the waterfall.
Take in the impressive spectacle on the sun terrace of the Grawa Alm. From there you have a wonderful view of the waterfall. - Thanks to the numerous bus stops along the way, you can shorten or end the hike whenever you feel like it.
- Good hikers should definitely also tackle stage 2 of the Wild Waters Trail.
- Start directly at the waterfall via the two platforms up to the Sulzenau-Alm (approx. 1 h) or to the beautifully situated Sulzenau-Hütte (approx. 2 h). Another 20 minutes above is the crystal-clear Blaue Lacke mountain lake – highly recommended.
On the way back, we recommend the “old trail”, which is easier to descend and makes for a beautiful circular hike.
Hiking tip 2: SUNNSEITN WAY
Take the gondola lift in Fulpmes in the Schlick 2000 to the “Froneben” middle station.
- Always facing the sun, you then head into the valley via the tree house trail and the Alpengasthof Vergör. We recommend stopping for a bite to eat there or taking something to drink with you. There is no further option until Neustift.
- From there, continue via the Pfurtschellhöfe farms to the suspension bridge with the “Neustiftblick” natural spectacle.
- Enjoy the outstanding view of the valley and the magnificent panorama all along the way.
- You can also take a circular walk across the suspension bridge directly from the hotel.
Hiking tip 3: MARIA WALDRAST
A wide forest path leads from the mountain station of the Serles cable car up to the Maria Waldrast monastery at 1641 m, the highest monastery in Europe. Where the picturesque pilgrimage church stands today, there was once a small clearing where travelers stopped to rest on their way over the passes – hence the name Waldrast. According to legend, shepherd boys found the image of the Virgin Mary in a hollow larch trunk on Holy Saturday 1407; at Pentecost of the same year, the Madonna and Child appeared to the woodcutter Christian Lusch right here and asked for a church to be built. In 1409, the Bishop of Brixen granted permission and twenty years later the first chapel was completed. As early as the 16th century, a spring was tapped at the monastery, whose water from the Marienbrunnen fountain is still considered to have healing properties today and is valued by locals and visitors from neighboring countries alike.
Our recommendations:
- Experienced hikers return to the Ochsenhütte in Mieders via the panoramic Waldraster Jöchl.
- If you prefer a more leisurely trip to the monastery, a small train also runs several times a day from the mountain station to the monastery for a fee.
- You shouldn’t miss out on a tour along the Serles – Goethe called it the “high altar of Tyrol” for good reason.
Hiking tip 4: BSUCHALM
Just like the Wild Water Trail, the trail to the Bsuchalm starts at the “Nürnberger Hütte” bus stop. From there, you can take a short, leisurely hike of approx. 45 minutes to the Bsuchalm and enjoy the unspoilt “Lange Tal”.
This mountain hut was recently taken over by a very young, motivated woman from Neustift.
For those who want more, there is the somewhat difficult and long ascent to the Nürnberger Hütte (approx. 3 hours).
Hiking tip 5: KLAUS ÄUELE
From Krößbach, bus stop “Krößbach Lift”, the hiking trail leads into the valley on the right over the bridge across the Volderau campsite to the local recreation area “Klaus Äuele”.
The fresh water of the Ruetz flows through the artificially created landscape lake.
The raft ride is a special highlight for children. The large playground and the Flying Fox are also a magnet. Pack your swimming trunks and towel!
Adults can relax on the sunbathing lawn or a sun lounger. You can stop off at the end of the circular hike at the “Doadler Alm” or directly at the playground in the “Marende Stüberl”.
If you still feel like it, you can walk back to Neustift. There are always bus stops.
Hiking tip 6: STOCKERHOF THROUGH THE TELFER WIESEN
Take the bus to Telfes. From the bus stop in the village, walk uphill to the Kapfers district to the last parking lot at the Thalerhof. You can also get there by car (parking lot for a fee).
From there, a forest path leads out into the beautiful larch meadows. At the first fork in the road, the idyllic path branches off to the left, first a little steeper uphill, then leisurely through forest and meadows. Follow the signs. Walking time approx. 45 minutes.
You can return the same way or complete the circular walk. Directly from the Stockerhof, a steep path leads down to the Stubaitalbahn railroad line. From there you walk back into the valley along a wide forest path back to the parking lot.
Our recommendations
Your car can also take a vacation in the Stubai Valley.
The bus connection is perfectly developed. The bus runs every half hour in both directions and you can start almost every hike from a bus stop.
And the best thing about it: with the Stubai Super Card you can use the bus in the valley and to Innsbruck free of charge.
The ride on the Stubai Valley Railway from Fulpmes to Innsbruck is also free of charge. In any case, this trip through the idyllic Telfer meadows and Innsbruck’s surrounding vacation villages to the center of the Alpine capital Innsbruck is an experience!
We are happy to recommend the Bsuchalm or the Klaus Äuele for this. Both tours are leisurely, scenically beautiful and leave enough time to spend a relaxing afternoon at our hiking hotel:
Either relax your muscles after the hike in our spa area (with saunas, steam bath and much more) or read a good book in the lovingly landscaped hotel garden. Thanks to the Stubai.Super.Card, our guests can also explore the swimming pools in the Neustift – Stubaital region free of charge. If you are unsure, we will be happy to advise you personally.
Thanks to our hiking hotel’s very central location right in the heart of the hiking area, all hiking trails are within easy reach. You can easily reach many starting points via the free hiking bus, which stops just 50 meters from the hotel. With the STUBAI.SUPER.CARD, you can even travel throughout the entire valley for free and take part in the free guided hikes. That’s why many of our guests simply leave their cars behind during their vacation.
Of course, we will be happy to tell you our favorite places as part of our personal, individual hiking advice at reception. In addition, you will find current recommendations in our morning post every morning. If you want to delve even deeper into the mountain world, you shouldn’t miss the “Wanderbares Stubaital” lecture with hotel manager Stefan. There are many tips that you won’t find in any hiking guide.
Our conclusion:
Everyone has their own favorite hike. Some love waterfalls and mountain streams, while others seek out cozy alpine huts or scenic high-altitude trails. That’s exactly what makes the Stubai Valley so special: Here, everyone can find their own special spot in the mountains. As a hiking-specialized hotel, we’re the perfect starting point for your ideal hiking vacation in Neustift in the Stubai Valley: With a hearty breakfast for hikers, a wide range of hiking amenities (such as rental poles, hiking backpacks, a hiking bus just 50 meters away, and our on-site hiking room…), our highly personalized, individual hiking advice, weekly guided hikes, and our central location right in the heart of the hiking area, we’re your perfect partner for your hiking vacation.
