Published on July 20, 2026
Hiking with kids has to be one thing above all else: exciting and full of variety. That’s exactly why so many families spend their summer vacations with us at the Berg Genuss Hotel Augarten in Neustift in the Stubai Valley.
As a hotel specializing in hiking, we know the most beautiful trails for all ages and are happy to share our personal recommendations with you. Right on our doorstep, you’ll find family-friendly hiking trails, exciting nature experiences, and plenty of adventure.
In this blog post, we’ve put together a list of our five favorite family hikes for you. Look forward to the Treehouse Trail with its lovingly designed treehouses, the Disc Trail with its fun play stations, the Slide Park at Schlick 2000 with its 7 slides (each between 20 and 48 meters long), the diverse Serlespark in Mieders, and the Wilde Wasser Trail with its extraordinary waterfall (perfect for hot days).
Of course, we’ll also provide you with plenty of hiking extras to enhance your vacation: a free STUBAI.SUPER.CARD, free hiking poles and backpacks (subject to availability), personalized hiking tips, and a hearty breakfast to get your day off to the perfect start.
The most important things at a glance:
- A specialized hiking hotel centrally located in the Stubai Valley hiking region and in the heart of Neustift.
- It’s also ideal for families during school breaks, with spacious family rooms and suites.
- Hiking extras for hikers right at the hotel: free rental of hiking poles and new hiking backpacks, a free hiking shuttle just a few meters away, an on-site hiking room with a shoe dryer …
- 5 family hikes in the immediate area: hiking trails with a summer toboggan run, mountain lakes with water features, giant slides, or waterfalls.
The 5 Most Beautiful Hikes for Families:
1. “Treehouse Trail” Family Hike:
The new Treehouse Trail between the midway station of the Schlick 2000 and the Alpengasthof Vergör is perfect for hiking with children.
The trail is easy to walk, stroller-friendly, and can be completed in about an hour.
Along the way, several treehouses invite you to play, climb, run around, explore, and relax.
At the end of the hike, you can satisfy your hunger and thirst at the Vergör snack bar and then take a leisurely walk back along the forest trail to the Schlick 2000 valley station.
More athletic hikers can hike all the way to Neustift via the new Sunnenseit’n Trail and the suspension bridge.

2. Family Hike “Scheibenweg”:
Take the Schlick 2000 gondola to the Froneben midway station, and from there, take the Galtbergbahn. Take a leisurely hike to Panoramasee; the famous Scheibenweg trail starts there.
Children race each other with a wooden disc. The wooden disc rolls along the grooves at the side of the path and must be placed in specially designed stations.
IMPORTANT:
The tickets for the Scheibenweg trail are only available at the valley station. Be sure to pick them up right at the start.
If you’d like to go on a longer hike, you should set aside a second day to explore the hiking paradise of Schlick 2000 (take the gondola directly to the Kreuzjoch mountain station).
- You can reach the “Stubaiblick” observation deck in just 20 minutes via an accessible panoramic trail.
- Unique seating areas line the path, inviting visitors to rest and take a break.
- Once you reach the platform, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire Stubai mountain range. A special feature: the Viscope telescope provides detailed information about the mountains.
- Afterward, hike along the nature trail to the Schlicker Alm and continue on through the newly redesigned Abendweide—which features rest stops where you can relax and sharpen your senses—past the Panoramasee, and along the Scheibenweg, which is stroller-friendly, to the Froneben midway station.

3. Family Hike “Slide Trail”:
The slide trail at Schlick 2000 is one of those outings that families especially love to talk about. Instead of just hiking downhill, seven stainless-steel slides along the trail provide plenty of fun. This turns a leisurely family hike into a little adventure where it’s not just the kids who love to slide down more than once.
The trail starts at the Galtbergbahn mountain station and follows hiking trails No. 10 and No. 9 to the mid-station. You can easily rent the appropriate sliding mats at the valley station and pick them up at the mountain station.
As a hotel specializing in hiking, we especially recommend the Rutschenweg to families with children. We’d also be happy to suggest ways to combine this hike with other beautiful trails or a cozy stop for refreshments. Just ask at the front desk of our Berg Genuss Hotel.
4. “Serlespark Mieders” Family Hike:
There are numerous hikes suitable for children starting at the Serlesbahnen Mieders mountain station—with just one catch: it’s hard to get the kids to leave the mountain station!
At the water play park—which features a whitewater course that can be dammed up, a raft for crossing the lake, and a great playground—the little ones can have fun for hours.
Don’t forget your swimwear!
In the meantime, adults can enjoy the breathtaking mountain panorama and relax.
The best way to entice the kids to go on a hike to the Ochsenhütte or take a train ride to Maria Waldrast is with the giant slide above the mountain station.
To round off the day, a ride on the summer toboggan run is a must—a thrilling experience for young and old alike, with a vertical drop of 640 m and a track length of 2.8 km!

5. Family Hike “Wilde Wasser Weg”:
There are hikes with spine-tingling moments that thrill children just as much as they do adults. For us, the first stage of the Wilde Wasser Weg is definitely one of them.
This family-friendly trail leads through the impressive Ruetz Cataract to the Grawa Waterfall—the widest waterfall in the Eastern Alps. Along the way, roaring streams, small waterfalls, exciting viewing platforms, and cozy rest areas ensure that you’ll never get bored. The rustic Tschangelair Alm and the Grawa Alm also invite you to stop for a relaxing break.
The best part: The first stage is stroller-friendly and well-suited for older hikers as well. This way, everyone can truly experience the impressive power of the water up close.
As a hotel specializing in hiking, we especially recommend this tour to families. We’d be happy to share our personal tips for the perfect day of hiking and provide you with plenty of hiking extras.
